How It All Started
How did my family end up living full time in an RV? In 2013 My husband I got married after knowing each other for seven months. We tried living in our own place but we were always spending our money on bills. Who wants to spend their whole paycheck on rent? Not us! We wanted much more. We were renting a crappy room in a ghetto town. A few months after we got married I found out I was pregnant! At that time I had just lost my job, which was a huge hit to me ego. At the time we owned a sailboat that we kept in Chula Vista Marina. My husband had huge dreams for this boat, but the more he fixed things, the more things broke. The deck was literally soggy. The last owners let this beauty rot in the sun and water without any care. My husband wanted to restore her to her full beauty. With a baby on the way and limited income we decided to sell her. That was after we lived in it for a couple weeks. My husband realized it wasn't feasible to live in so we packed up and headed to my Grandmother's. We thought we would live with her and have the baby there....until...we decided that was a very bad idea. Her husband developed severe dementia and would fight with me over giving him alcohol. He was also diabetic. If I didn't hide sweets from him, he would indulge himself. I was becoming very stressed pregnant so we had to think of where else we could live that was affordable. We decided to buy an RV. My husband thought we were just going to travel on the weekends, but once we got in, we never wanted to leave. Our first destination was Lake Skinner in Temecula, CA and then we went to Oceanside, where we stayed the whole summer. My husband learned how to surf and I being pregnant, watched him from the sand. We have been living in our RV for almost a year now. Its nothing fancy. Actually its very old, a 1985 Hawkins Motor Coach. Our baby girl has her bed next to ours along with all her things. I learned how to organize everything we have in a 36 feet vehicle. We had to get rid of many things. My husband sold most of his toys and I gave away many of my things. You cannot be attached to the things of this world. I have learned to only cling to things that last: family. Plus things are really just baggage that holds you back. It feels very freeing! We can pick up and go anywhere we want. Our home is each other and we learn to roll with the changes...literally.

ReplyDeleteThank you so much for reading! My hubby is a computer programmer. He works for a company called Iron Man in Corona, but he works remotely because he only needs a computer. Right now I am in Needles but I might be heading back to SD
